# Restore a missing app icon

> Download the official Desktop or VR X-ray Simulator icon and restore it to a Windows desktop shortcut.

If the X-ray Simulator desktop shortcut shows a blank or generic icon, download the official icon for your simulator and apply it to the shortcut.

## Download the correct icon

* [Download the Desktop X-ray Simulator icon](/Assets/app-icons/desktop-x-ray-simulator.ico)
* [Download the VR X-ray Simulator icon](/Assets/app-icons/vr-x-ray-simulator.ico)

Save the `.ico` file somewhere permanent on the PC. Windows needs the file to remain in the same location to keep displaying the icon.

## Apply the icon to the shortcut

1. Right-click the X-ray Simulator shortcut on the Windows desktop and select **Properties**.
2. Open the **Shortcut** tab and select **Change Icon**.
3. Select **Browse**, choose the downloaded `.ico` file, and select **Open**.
4. Select **OK**, then **Apply**.

If the X-ray Simulator shortcut itself is missing, or the icon does not return after these steps, [contact VitaSim support](/Support/support).
