Use this page when you need to understand which login is used where, or when a school asks how accounts relate to software licenses. The short version is:
  • Students determine licensing. License count is based on the number of students expected to use X-ray Simulator during the licensed period.
  • Accounts control simulator access. X-ray Simulator accounts are login credentials created and provided by VitaSim after purchase.
  • Devices do not determine license count. A computer, VR station, or headset is hardware. It does not define the number of licenses needed.

Students, licenses, and accounts

A licensed student is any student expected to use X-ray Simulator during the licensed period. This is true whether the student has an individual account, shares a station account, or uses more than one device. Faculty, instructors, IT reviewers, and administrators do not count toward the paid student license count. They are included so they can support teaching, setup, review, and administration. X-ray Simulator accounts are separate from license count. VitaSim creates and provides these accounts after purchase. A program can use individual student accounts, shared station accounts, or a mix of both.
X-ray Simulator does not require a separate activation code for normal setup or login.

Choosing an account setup

Individual student accounts

Individual student accounts are usually best when students should log in as themselves. This is common for Desktop X-ray Simulator deployments, especially when students run the simulator on their own computers. Use individual accounts when the program wants clearer per-student tracking, separate saved progress, or stronger accountability.

Shared station accounts

Shared station accounts are acceptable when operational simplicity matters more than individual student tracking. This is common for VR stations because the headset and PC are shared equipment. For example, if 20 students use one VR station, the license count is still based on the 20 students. The program may choose one shared station account for that VR station, but the account count does not change the license count. Both account patterns can be used for either Desktop or VR when the program prefers that setup.

Credential types

Different credentials are involved in a full setup. Keep these separate when asking IT, faculty, or VitaSim for help.

For Meta or Quest Link login questions related to a VitaSim-provided station, contact [email protected].

X-ray Simulator accounts

Use the X-ray Simulator account on the simulator login screen after launching the Desktop or VR application. If you need an additional account, a replacement account, or a different account setup after purchase, contact your CSM or VitaSim support. If you are still planning a purchase and need help deciding license count or account setup, contact [email protected].

PC and admin logins

The PC login controls access to the computer. The hardware admin login controls whether software can be installed, updated, or managed on that computer. For institution-owned computers, these logins are normally controlled by the institution’s IT department. For VitaSim-provided computers or VR stations, contact [email protected] if you need PC, Meta, or admin account help. The Meta account is only relevant for VR headset setup and Meta Quest Link. It is separate from X-ray Simulator accounts and separate from X-ray Simulator license count. You may need the Meta account when setting up the VR headset, reinstalling Meta Quest Link, or changing Meta account settings. For normal simulator use, students sign in to X-ray Simulator with the X-ray Simulator account provided for the program or station.
